There are many ways to expand the role of Asian Studies at an institution, including the following:

  • creation of an Asian Studies major or minor
  • inclusion of courses on Asia in an international or global studies program
  • as part of a certificate program
  • inclusion of courses on Asia in the general education curriculum.

Institutions with a robust set of courses on Asia may develop all of the above curricular elements, while those with more limited course offerings may focus on creating an Asian Studies minor or embedding the study of Asia in other parts of the curriculum. In considering various paths to develop the study of Asia, it is important to keep in mind that there are varying pathways to infuse Asian content into a curriculum and that the pathways require different levels of resources, such as faculty and course offerings.
